The USA South Athletic Conference President's Cup symbolizes the
league's top overall athletic program each year. As of the
2005-2006 school year, there is a separate men's and women's Cup as
well the overall cup. Points are distributed based on the
number of schools sponsoring the particular sport.
The addition of new championship-sponsored sports is exciting and
has an impact on the President's Cup standings.
Women's
lacrosse was added in 2000-01 as a conference sport, while the
newest member on the league's athletic menu (football) kicked off in
2001.
Since the
inception of the President's Cup, Christopher Newport University,
Methodist College, Greensboro, and former league member St. Andrews
Presbyterian College have been the only recipients.
Christopher Newport has laid claim to 21 titles, with Methodist
behind at 10. Greensboro has one President's Cup,
winning the inaugural women's President's Cup. St. Andrews won
the first five President's Cup titles, from 1979-1983. |
