Greensboro's Jenee Johnson Named USA South Woman of the Year

(FAYETTEVILLE, N.C.) - The NCAA Woman of the Year award honors student-athletes for their collegiate achievements in service, leadership, athletics and academics. The USA South Athletic Conference's 2008 Woman of the Year and nominee for the NCAA award is Greensboro College senior softball player Jenee Johnson.

Johnson, an outfielder for The Pride, concluded her collegiate career this spring. Johnson is a four-time All-Conference performer and tops the Pride all-time list in at-bats, hits and total bases. Off the field, she has amassed a 3.34 GPA while majoring in international studies/child and family studies with a sociology minor. Johnson was a member of the Dean's List twice and was presented with the Distinguished Sociology Student Award this spring. Johnson has also donated her time to many worthy causes. She has been involved with the Boy's and Girl's Club, the "Save Darfur" organization and Vidas De Esperanza, a non-profit organization dedicated to improve the health and education of children in need in Mexico.

This honoree's name and accolades will now be forwarded to the NCAA Woman of the Year selection committee. The committee will choose the top ten nominees in each division (I, II and III). From among those 30 honorees, the selection committee will determine the top three in each division. From those nine, the 2008 NCAA Woman of the Year will be chosen. The top ten honorees from each division will be honored at a dinner in Indianapolis on October 19, 2008.

Other student-athletes chosen as institutional Women of the Year were Sarah Joy Williams of Greensboro College, Libby Fulford of N.C. Wesleyan College, Ashley Hay of Christopher Newport University and Karen Potter of Mary Baldwin College.
