May 14, 2008 Lynchburg Cruises Past Piedmont (DANVILLE, VA) - Joe Devlin tossed a complete game as Lynchburg College defeated Piedmont College, 9-1, in an NCAA South Region game at American Legion Field at Dan Daniel Park on Wednesday. Lynchburg, the fourth seed
in tournament, improved to 31-11 while third-seeded Piedmont is now 33-13.
Devlin improved to 9-0, scattered eight hits, struck out four and walked
three batters. The Hornets got the only
run they needed in the top of the first inning. Cameron Grant doubled to
leadoff the game and then scored on a Kyle Bradley (3-for-5, 3 RBI)
single. Leading 4-0 going to the ninth inning, LC tacked on four more runs. Jon Crews went 4-for-4 with three RBI for the Hornets, including a two-run home run in the final frame. Ryan Litz went 3-for-4 with four RBI and also had a 9th-inning home run. Shelton
Spencer (6-3) took the defeat for the Lions. At the plate, Andrew Migetz
was 2-4 with a run batted in for PC. Lynchburg advances to faces CNU at 7 p.m. on Thursday. Piedmont faces Salisbury at 3 p.m. |
