May 16, 2008 Johns Hopkins Offensive Outburst Eliminates Piedmont (DANVILLE, VA) - At the NCAA South Regional Baseball Tournament on Friday, the Blue Jays of Johns Hopkins University defeated the Lions of Piedmont College, 13-6, eliminating PC and advancing JHU to the final day of the tournament. Piedmont (34-14) opened the scoring posting two runs on three hits in the first inning. The Lions held the lead through two and a half innings. In the bottom of the third, Johns Hopkins (36-6) had a huge six-run inning, started with a Brian Youchak single and covering seven total hits. The Lions closed the gap with three runs in the top of the fourth inning but the Blue Jays kept pace with three of their own in the bottom of the fourth frame. Johns Hopkins scored a single run in each of the following three innings to secure the win. Todd Emr led the Blue Jay offense with three hits, four RBI and two runs scored. For the Lions, Andy House was 4-for-4 with two runs scored and one run batted in. Greg Harbeck picks up the win in relief, allowing only three hits over 4.1 innings while Matt Burgess took the loss with seven runs in 2.1 innings. With the win, JHU advances to the final day, where they will play Lynchburg College at 12:00 p.m. Whether or not that game is a championship game depends on the outcome of the Lynchburg/Salisbury contest later tonight. |
