Salisbury Comeback Downs Lynchburg

(DANVILLE, VA) - After trailing for nearly the entire contest, the Sea Gulls of Salisbury University scored five runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to defeat the Hornets of Lynchburg College, 5-3. 

In the top of the first inning, Lynchburg (32-12) jumped to a quick lead scoring two runs. Cameron Grant led off with a single and then scored on a Jon Crews single. Crews then scored on a single from Jeff Taylor.

The Hornets held the advantage until the bottom of the eighth inning, when the Salisbury (41-3) offense came to life. Pinch hitter Tyler Riley led-off the inning with a walk followed later by Mike Celenza who smacked a three-run double to the right-centerfield wall. In the inning, SU managed five runs on five hits to take the late advantage. The Hornets managed a single run in the top of the ninth inning, but the Sea Gulls held on for the win.

Celenza led the Salisbury offense with his lone hit with RBI and one run scored. Crews led the Hornet offense with two hits for two RBI and a run scored. Jeff Feigl picked up the complete game win allowing only five hits, while Connor Thompson took the loss.

Salisbury advances to the championship game on Saturday, May 17 at 4:00 p.m., while Lynchburg plays Johns Hopkins at 12:00 p.m. for the opportunity to advance to the championship.
